The project undertaken was to pedestrianise Real street. The design was executed in five different types of marble blocks. Several test drawings demonstrated the appropriateness of using an abstract design as this would avoid pronouncing the street’s linearity. A painting by the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian was the inspiration behind the final pattern.
The street has become a place of ‘being’ more than a space to pass through.
Investigating ‘fine art’ as a starting point for a project can inspire a different kind of result, often interesting, always unpredictable.
